Malcolm (Mal) Davies is a 62-year retired police officer from Markham in Gwent. He says: "On hearing of the WOW appeal, I thought that this was a challenge and worthwhile cause. I would like to say that I have had a good life, and if my small contribution towards this worthwhile cause can give a little help to the Guardsmen and their families who need it, I am more than willing to give up my time for them."
His team will be made of retired Welsh Guardsmen all over the age of 60.
Mal enlisted in the Welsh Guards in 1971 aged 20years, after training he was posted to Munster in Germany where he served in Prince of Wales Company. While serving he obtained the rank of LCpl. He was also in the Battalion rugby squad and as a result of this is now of the Committee of the Welsh Guards Rugby Reunion.
He left the Regiment in 1974 to marry Moira and they have been married for 38 years. They have to daughters and five grandchildren. In 1976 he joined the Police Force where he served for 28 years.
